Yes. There will be holidays in the game, based on the GAME history. No, you will not find Santa Claus running around in the world of Xaltoria when it is Christmas in the real world. Real life holidays will not be celebrated in the game. Only game holidays.
As for events, there will be many different events including carnivals and special vendors bringing items which can only be purchased on that occasion. (Another great time for merchants to buy lots of these 'one time only' items and sell them in their stores later for a profit.) There will be happenings in the world like natural disasters and events set in motion by the players, invasions from the other kingdom and estate wars just for starters.
There will also be something we call Extracurricular Roleplaying Activities/Events, which are events set up by players. Our Events Coordinator will consider parties, weddings, grand openings for stores, and just about anything you can dream up.
