About Lazaron

This section is meant to give you information as a whole about the 'land' of Lazaron and a general overview of its society. To learn about classes, races, history, or other specific topics, you should see those sections in the Lazaron Portal.

Lazaron is a land of fertile fields that support a robust economy, and without the worry of food and resource, the people have grown in intellectually and have developed a great and mostly peaceful society.

Having had most of its major cities destroyed during the Chaos Wars, it has since been trying to build its way back to some resemblance of the place it once was. Please see the Lazaron History section for more information about the Chaos War and the new focus of the people of this land.

Lazaron is home to seven races, four of which are considered 'The Races'. Those are High Elf, Mountain Dwarf, Lazaronian (Human), and Tree Elf. Three more races appeared after the Rending, and they have been come to be known collectively as 'The Fae'. These are the Sprite, Pixie, and Gnome.

All of the Races and the Fae live mostly in peace, depending on one another for trade of resources and other goods. The economy is bolstered by the dedicated teachings of the Professors at the Town Academies, which were established at the beginning of the Age of Prosperity. When a Lazaronian child turns five, he or she is taken to the Academy, and there, their skills are identified, trained, honed and finally around twelve years later, they are released. The same goes for all the races, though because of different life spans, the exact age they are brought to the Academy differs.

Lazaron Rainfall

Lazaron experiences weather that is mostly moderate as a whole. The southern region (Quenae, Avendae) are much warmer than the Northern Region (Qwaylan, Laraville) due to their coastal location. The curving mass of the Mt. Clearwater range also serves to keep the warm air coming off the Sea of Levia circulating in the region. This process is furthered by the Fae Mountains, being curved in s similar way. This area is known for dense rain, warm weather, and high winds. The western side of the Kingdom is the lowest in altitude while the east is the highest, Mt. Iceback being the central and highest point in the land.

The climate map to the right shows the average rain fall. Deeper green areas indicate more rain, while lighter green areas equal less. Mount Iceback never sees any rain and is always extremely cold. The eastern side of the Kingdom, away from the warmer Ocean air, does not see much rain, but is not dry either. The northern area, which has a cooler climate than the south, does see significant rain along the coast. Laraville's location allows warm air from the Ocean to be channeled overland to its region, keeping the area warmer and bringing just enough rain to produce an ideal farming community.

The blue areas of the map show the ranges that will receive snow instead of rain.

Summer in Lazaron

Lazaron summers are mild to moderate, the southern region again experiencing higher temperatures than the northern region. The same swirling Ocean breezes that keep the areas producing heavy rainfall, also serves to placate the heat of the summer months. Eastern Lazaron maintains consistent temperatures through out the summer, and Laraville with its prime location does not see the intense heat that can be found along the coastal regions from south to north. The Fae Mountains are warm and tropical in nature, while Mt. Clearwater, Mt. Iceback, and Mt. Gray Winds all serve as giant 'coolers' for the central and northern areas of the Kingdom.

When speaking of Mt. Iceback, the range warms up in its lower altitudes but never is seen the day where the upper regions of this range thaw. So cold is this place year round, that the entire top of the mountain is rumored to be entirely ice. The Dwarves in Chelsa do see some significant melting and run off of the lower parts of the mountain range, causing flooding and great rising in Toita's Chalice as well as surrounding rivers and smaller lakes. Most of this run off collects towards the western areas of Laraville, creating a permanent boggy swamp area that dissipates somewhat over the later Summer months. Some of this run off also makes its away south of Laraville, and the same area is known for flash flooding in spring and especially hot summer months.

Winter in Lazaron

The Southern region of the Kingdom sees mild winters with the exception of the far eastern side. This area is subject to freezing winds and a drop in temperatures due to the ocean air being channeled by Mt. Iceback, and cooled by that frigid range. The Fae Mountains do see some snow, but only at their highest altitudes. The Southern region does not see snow very often at all. Opstantinopian in Mt. Clearwater is subject to plenty of snow and some freezing temperatures, but Laraville stays fairly moderate with the warm air off the Sea of Maevia again keeping it temperate. However, it has been known to suffer from severe winters in times when the air currents are shifting down from the Sea of Xeomia. Otherwise, the central area sees snow up to four feet in mid-winter. Toita's chalice is known to freeze.

Mt. Iceback can become completely snowed in and drops in temperature below freezing. The Mountain Dwarves seem to be the only ones able to tolerate the place in the winter time, so trade trickles down to what the Dwarves will or can bring down out of the mountains. The Northern Region is the coldest area often seeing temperatures near or below zero, except for the western shore area. This area sees heavy amounts of snow but rarely drops below ten degrees. The Sea of Xeomia is known to have great sheets of ice and is completely impassible during the winter months. Spring is not much better and one must be very skilled and have a properly designed vessel for maneuvering in the ice riddled waters. In Summer, all the Seas are amiable to travel, though the Southern Sea of Levia is known for squalls and sudden storms.

Since The Seventh Sun is still in development, there are a lot of questions that we can't completely answer yet. The Geography of the Kingdoms largely depends on how long the players are willing to travel to cross from one end of the continent to the other. It is important to remember that there may never be a reason for you to walk from one end to the other, however, the question must still be answered.
