Answer
Faction allows players to build or lose reputation with various organizations and races in Xaltoria. Faction will become increasingly important as the world recovers from the ruination. Faction can determine where you can build your home, where you can shop for supplies and how your character is treated in general.
There are also special items that require you to have a certain faction level to use, and items that will boost your faction when you wear or hold them. Currently, you can gain and lose faction by completing certain quests. Some factions have opposing factions and when you gain faction in one you lose it in the other.
You can check your faction by typing: FACTION
You will get alerts when factions rise or fall.
